What other historic neighborhoods are near Decatur?

Beyond Albany and Old Decatur, there is the historic town of Mooresville (a village full of pre-Civil War homes and buildings), and Huntsville's Twickenham neighborhood.

Point Mallard Park's J. Gilmer Blackburn Aquatic Center is home to the first wave pool in the United States. Point Mallard also has ice skating, golf, nature trails and a campground.

The U.S. Space and Rocket Center is home to Space Camp, and is recognized as one of the most comprehensive U.S. manned space flight hardware museums in the world. It has an IMAX movie theatre and a park full of real rockets and fun rides.

Driving Directions

The Albany Historic District is located just a few minutes off I-65 midway between Nashville, Tennessee, and Birmingham, Alabama.

From the north: Going southbound on I-65, take Decatur Exit 340 onto Alabama Highway 20. Highway 20 will merge with U.S. Highway 31 just before the bridge which will take you over the Tennessee River and into Decatur. Highway 31 (6th Avenue in Decatur) goes straight through the Albany Historic District.

From the south: Going northbound on I-65, take Decatur Exit 344 onto Alabama Highway 67, through the Wheeler Wildlife Refuge. Turn right onto U.S. Highway 31. Highway 31 (6th Avenue in Decatur) goes straight through the Albany Historic District.
